Music Appreciation

Every once in a while I figure the boys need some culture and arts in their education. A few times a year, the theatre in town has free afternoon shows for schoolkids. Sometimes it is the symphony, or a choir or some other kind of show.

The theatre is beautiful inside and the performance is usually very good. But Thursday's symphony concert was challenging to say the least. We sat in front of about 50 unsupervised schoolchildren from one of the area schools. It was very difficult to enjoy the music with someone kicking the back of your seat, talking, laughing, climbing over the seats. Even after being asked to stop by one of the moms in our homeschool group numerous times, the behavior continued throughout the show.

It was sort of trying of one's patience, to say the least. I made the boys write about their trip to the symphony. Zack wrote that the trip to the symphony made him believe that "teachers must have a special gift." I think he's right.
