Alaska - Day Fourteen: 3734.9 miles to Anchorage, AK

We left Chitina before most of the camp was up (I guess dip-netters don't start early) and headed towards Anchorage.

The weather was mostly cloudy all day but it didn't rain. But we also didn't see much scenery or any animals.

We caught a quick glimpse of some distant peaks early in the day...

Lions Head (aka Glacier Point)...

Matanuska Glacier is 27 miles long and an average of 2 miles wide, and 4 miles wide at its terminus. It has remained stable the past 400 years. The meltwater flows into the Matanuska River. You can only get up to the ice through private property. We didn't get to get very close. We just weren't willing to pay $50 to just walk up to a glacier when we'd already done it for free...

We followed along the Matanuska River for a few miles...

Alpine Historical Park is an open-air coal mining museum and city park. They had a very fun play park for kids and exercise equipment for grown-ups. Somehow that just didn't seem fair??? ;)

Camping options in Anchorage were pretty scarce and it was hard to believe we were in the best of the bunch...

Anchorage was just a big city. Nothing special.

We went to the Costco. Nothing unique there except for dip nets, which I predicted. They also wouldn't let us get gas there for some reason???

Then we went downtown and wandered through all the souvenir shops and had dinner. We also went down to Ship Creek to watch the fishermen...

Did some shopping at the WalMart and picked up some Ben & Jerry's Tonight Dough ice cream for dessert...
