We'd been looking forward to this trip for so long! The Prices' season tickets were such a gift and we were so excited that Zack and Tatum could come with us. The first day we picked them up at the airport in Minneapolis (with a stop for donuts) and drove to Sturgeon Bay (with a stop at the Leine Lodge).
Now the Clearwater Travel Center knows how to do donuts. They are both ginormous and delicous!
I love how pretty the Leinenkugel Brewery is and they have really good beers to boot...
When we met up at the van to leave, it turned out the guys had worn the exact same outfit... LOL
Our first stop was Potawatomi State Park to climb up the observation tower for a view of Sturgeon Bay and the canopy of trees...
Our second stop was for all things famous Door County cherries and wine tasting at Lautenbach's Orchards...
Lunch was Swedish pancakes, Swedish meatballs, and cherry bread pudding at Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant in Sister Bay. The food was good but the best part was the goats on the roof...
We had just enough time to walk off some of our lunch at Peninsula State Park before dinner. This park also had an observation tower. The Eagle Tower is the first one in Wisconsin with a wheelchair ramp to the top. We took the stairs up and the ramp down...
The Eagle Bluff Lighthouse just reopened after extensive renovations completed just earlier this summer...
Nicolet Beach was a very nice swimming spot on Green Bay with a fancy light system to warn swimmers about conditions...
I was glad we got to the Old Post Office early so we could get a seat to watch the fish boil. We watched the pot master make our dinner while telling the story of Door County and the history of the fish boil. Then was the grand finale "boil over"! It was so hot that it hurt our legs!
The supper was simple but delicious! Followed up by a piece of Door County cherry pie...
Since we were served first, we still had time to see Cave Point County Park and Whitefish Dunes SNA...
Whitefish Dunes wasn't as dune-y as we had expected...
Door County is know as "Death's Door" due to the 249 shipwrecks just off the coastlines. The park also had some displays about the wrecks and the ships...
