Alaska - Day Twenty-Nine: 6,914.5 miles to Dease Lake, BC

The campground laundry room had a microwave which meant we got hot cinnamon roll for breakfast before washing the truck AGAIN...

Because it was dark shortly after we arrived, I almost forgot to take a picture of our camp...

Just a bit outside of Whitehorse is Miles Canyon, originally called "Grand Canyon" by stampeders but renamed in 1883. A trail there leads to the historic site of Canyon City, a gold rush settlement and portage point around the canyon.

We hiked a long way on the trail. It was pretty but we really expected to see something about Canyon City. Nope. Nothing. But we did see a bald eagle...

Just after getting on the Cassiar Highway, we noticed a wildfire burning somewhere in the distance...

I had been looking forward to and praying for good weather to kayak and swim at Boya Lake ever since I saw it a month earlier. And God answered with beautiful sunny weather and about 80 degrees!

The color of the water is spectacular and you can see the white sand bottom in several places...

At the suggestion of another kayaker, we paddled out to investigate a large beaver dam holding back another large lake...

The clouds started to roll in, so we hurried back to swim...

The water may look like the water in Hawaii but it doesn't feel like it... LOL

It wasn't that bad. In fact, it was kind of nice. I even convinced Chris to jump in and join the fun...

At Good Hope Lake we saw a pronghorn goat in the road...

Then we made a quick stop back at Jade City.

I don't know if it was because the weather was better or we were heading south, but the Cassiar was much more beautiful than the last time...

The road also seemed in much better condition! But that was probably because we'd been on much worse since the last time... ;)

We liked the little campground we kayaked to the ghost town from on Dease Lake so much, we decided to stay there...

We had a great view of the lake and enjoyed a not-so-quiet-yet-still-enjoyable evening, thanks to a very loud neighbor.

Oh, and the dark thing was still taking some getting used to. Chris was so excited that he actually got up to take these pictures of the moon over the lake... :)
