Israel Day 3/8: Tabgha

Tabgha is not mentioned by name in the Bible but is recognized at the site for many well-known stories.

It is famous for its "Seven Springs" which warmed the water and attracted fish to eat there, and consequently also attracted fishermen. It is the traditional location of Jesus calling Peter, Andrew, James and John to come and follow Him. It is also where tradition holds that Jesus cooked the disciples breakfast on the beach and reinstated Peter after his denial.

But the site is best known for the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves & Fishes.

The stone under the altar is believed to be the rock Christ placed the loaves and fishes on when He blessed them. As you can see, it is a popular place...

The tile mosaic isn't the only one in the church. Much of the floor is covered with intricate and spectacularly done mosaics from the Byzantine period.

In 2015, two Jewish youths were charged with setting fire to the monastery attached to the church.
