We got an early start on our flight from Bellingham to LAX. After a long line for our rental car we still had most of the day to explore.
After lunch at a taco food truck in a not great industrial neighborhood near the airport (but it was delicious) we drove up into the hills to The Getty.
The $1.3 billion dollar Getty Center opened in 1997. The museum, gardens and art institute all overlook the city of Los Angeles. It houses the art collection of J. Paul Getty, one of the richest Americans ever. It is an amazing museum, especially considering it is free to visit!
We decided to walk up to the museum rather than wait for the free tram. It was a scenic nice walk but we didn't see any of the warned of wildlife... cougars, coyotes or rattlesnakes.
As soon as we walked into the lobby, we signed up for a free tour of a couple of the museum pieces...
After the tour we wandered around to look at the rest of the museum for a few hours. The art ranges from medieval to modern...
Before it closed we wandered through the gardens for a bit. My favorite part... the baby ducks getting separated from their momma in the water maze.
We had to drive through Beverly Hills on the way to dinner...
Then we were hungry again, so we drove over to The Original Farmer's Market for an odd dinner of fried chicken, pickles, beer and donuts. The market opened in 1934 but is really just a bunch of food stalls. But there was also a live band playing swing music for dancing in the courtyard...
We ended the night visiting with the McIvors after arriving at their place...
