California Road Trip - Day Five

Rather than driving our way south to the end of Hwy 101, we drove straight to Imperial Beach and worked our way back north.

Imperial Beach was a lovely spot. Not too touristy. A fun beach for surfing. Sunny...

Then we drove through Coronado Island and stopped to walk a bit on the beach and check out the Hotel del Coronado. This was definitely the upscale touristy spot...

Cabrillo National Monument was a longer stop than I had expected. And since we had recently been in a national park, we got in for free! We got to see the Navy cemetery, tour the Point Loma lighthouse, visit the museum, and check out some of the gorgeous view points...

Misson Beach, on the other hand, was one of the most touristy spots ever. But there was lots of fun cheap shops and yummy food and beer for lunch right on the boardwalk...

I completely rearranged our schedule for the day so we could go to Sunset Cliffs Caves and the Children's Pool at LaJolla Cove. The caves were super disappointing and the the Children's Pool was closed due to the seals...

There wasn't much traffic between San Diego and Los Angeles. In fact we had enough time to visit Universal Studios CityWalk and have my birthday dinner at The Toothsome Chocolate Emporium & Savory Feast Kitchen. It was delicious!
