Montana- Day 4 Glacier NP (McDonald Creek Trail)

The plan for the rest of our day... Visit the last two viewpoints, check out Lake McDonald Lodge, do a bit of kayaking and head back early to Bigfork.

We parked at Sacred Dancing Cascades and noticed a trail on the other side of the creek but no way to get there.

But when we went a little bit down the road to McDonald Falls we realized there was both a bridge and a trail to the other side.

Well, we just had to check it out. We crossed the bridge, looked at the map and according to the scale we estimated it to be about a half mile back to Sacred Dancing Cascades. Just before we hit the trail we discussed whether or not we should go back to the van and change back into our hiking boots for a short 1/2 mile walk up creek. The vote was no and we headed upstream...

When we had been walking quite a while and the trail took a turn away from the creek and into a deep forest, we realized it wasn't going to be a quick walk upstream. But we were too committed to quit...

Eventually Chris got onto the map on his phone to use the GPS to figure out where we were and we kept walking...

The quiet solitude and the view of the falls from the other side made it totally worth it!

Our maybe 1 mile hike took much longer and much further than anticipated (about 4 miles round trip there and back) but was so much fun!
