Montana- Day 5 & 6

We got to hear Shawn preach and sing on Sunday morning while worshipping at Bethany Lutheran. It was kind of nice to just be able to walk across the parking lot to church. I'm not saying I want to live in a parsonage, but it is nice... :)

Since it was the day of their annual business meeting, we drove into town for lunch at Andy's Crafthouse, Montana's oldest distillery.

Then we drove Shawn and Karen into Kalispell for a birthday party, did a bit of souvenir shopping downtown and then went out for an early dinner at Sacred Waters Brewing Company. Our huli huli chicken lunch was pretty tasty but not exactly like Hawaii...

On the way home, they remembered that it was karaoke night at the VFW. So we went. And no, we didn't sing. But we enjoyed listening to others sing. Our host family are amazing singers! Turns out there are a few really good vocalists hiding out in Bigfork, Montana...

We woke up Monday with plans to kayak/SUP out to Wild Horse Island on Flathead Lake, do a bit of hiking, paddle back and then have dinner in Lakeside. Unfortunately the weather out on the lake just wasn't cooperating... :(

Plan B: Karen knew of this terrifically popular mercantile on the outskirts of Glacier NP. You know it's good when people drive over 30 miles on a gravel road to get there. Was it worth the 90 minute drive? Absolutely! Not only was the scenery on the way very pretty but the mango jalapeno rollie and huckleberry pinwheel and macaroon were all incredible!

The conditions on the lake still weren't conducive to a 4-mile kayak trip, so we did a 3 hour paddle down the Swan River instead. It ended up being a lot more work and distance than anticipated. Eventually the guys dropped Karen off at a friends' house (they were too tired to continue towing her on the tube) and she ran the 1.5 miles to the landing spot. It took the rest of us quite a bit longer. Needless to say we were all tired and hungry by the time we got back home.

Once again, it was Lydia to the rescue with a late night dinner of homemade gourmet patty melts! Then we played a game of Five Crowns and a couple of rounds of cribbage before crashing for the night.
