Vancouver Island Cruise – Day 1

Walt and Dena took us on a quick cruise in their boat to Vancouver Island to visit Buchart Gardens. We left the day before and spent the night at the John Wayne Marina in Sequim.

On the way, one of the tires on the boat trailer had a blow out. We changed it at a coffee stand near a gas station. We were able to use some landscaping block and the trailer jack to change the tire all by ourselves.

Butchart Gardens 02We were back on the road in no time. We stopped for supper. While maneuvering in the parking lot, a woman seemed to be following us in her car. Finally, she rolled down her window and said that one of the tires on our trailer was shredded. What??? Sure enough, the center tire was in bad shape.

Butchart Gardens 03    In order to make the rest of the trek to the marina, we removed the tire. We put the boat in the water, tied up to the dock, and settled in for the night…

First River Trip of 2013

Zack had the day off, the weather was sunny… we took the boat out for the first trip to the river of 2013. She had a bit of trouble starting, but once she got going she did just fine! It was really windy and the water was rough, but we made it out to our favorite spot on Walker Island! Thankfully, Andy found us a protected spot for us to set up our little shade and set up “camp”. Thanks, Andy!

river day 01 Despite the wind, the boys enjoyed the water. I enjoyed the water on the shallow warm side of the island and floated in my river rat.

river day 05We also played a game of beach Yahtzee while Will dug a hole! Big surprise! LOL

Fourth of July Family Fiesta

Once again we spent the 4th of July down in Portland with family. Unlike most years, this year the weather was gorgeous! :o)

We played yard games; watched the kids drive power wheels; set off firecrackers, snakes, smoke bombs and parachutes; snacked and generally had a lovely day!

Not only did Charlie turn 7 on the 4th of July but he also got to light fireworks for the very first time! He wasn’t too interested in them before. But that was before he used a punk… ;o)

It seemed like it would never get dark, so we started more around just before dusk. It was a good thing! We would have been there all night! We had some great fireworks this year! The Excalibur mortars were amazing!!!
