Our second full day in Hawaii was a Sunday. We worshipped at the chapel on base that morning. It was so great to praise the Lord with so many men and women who are sacrificing so much while serving our country!
After church we had lunch at Zippy’s, a popular restaurant on the island with real Hawaiian plate lunches and other treats. Yum!!!
With so much day left, we went for a hike before it got dark. First we explored the ruins of Kamehamea III and Queen Kalama’s summer palace.
It was so cool to see bananas growing in the wild!
Then we continued the hike through a thick forest of bamboo…
local lore has it that Kamehamea III is buried in the tiny unmarked cave
The creek we followed ran out at the edge of a waterfall. The waterfall ended in a beautiful green lawn with houses on the cliffs above. I would LOVE to live here with this in the backyard!
But the hike continued on to the swimming hole…
The cool water felt so refreshing after the hike! I think I could handle this in my backyard, too… :o)
