We're so glad we had been told about the two other waterfalls between St Mary and Virginia. Otherwise we may not have taken the time to explore these beautiful unnamed falls...
At the end of the trail we reached Virginia Falls...
We knew it was getting late in the day when we got back to St Mary Falls only to find the bridge completely empty...
Rather than taking the trail back to the car or riding the shuttle we simply walked the road back. Then we decided to make the rest of the drive all the way to the East Entrance in St Mary.
The view of the lake was very nice at the Golden Staircase (no idea why it got that name???)...
You always know there is some kind of wildlife to see when there are a ton of cars stopped in and next to the road for no apparent reason. And just before getting to Rising Sun, we saw just that. So we flipped a quick u-turn and got the last "parking spot" in order to catch a glimpse of a very large black bear at the far end of the meadow... (he's that black spot next to the tree line)
Then we flipped another u-turn, drove on to the store at Rising Sun, picked up a blackberry cream soda, and then continued once again to the East Entrance visitor's center...
The visitor's center was already closed but we ate our freeze-dried Pad Thai dinner in the parking lot, got our vehicle pass for the next day, and headed back west...
When we came upon this traffic jam we assumed it was an accident or a very slow driver until we got closer...
He eventually walked right past our van!
It was a beautiful night when we finally made it back to Bigfork and crashed for an early start the next morning...
