Like many popular places on the GTTSR, parking was hard to find. So we ended up parking a bit over a mile from the trailhead to St Mary and Virginia Falls. We were just going to wait for the shuttle to drive us there but the family at the stop suggested we take the Baring Falls trail along St Mary Lake to the trailhead instead.
The first thing we see as we round the first big bend in the trail is a large group of people following behind a mule deer. Turns out they had been following her for the past 30 minutes. I'm sure both the deer and the people wished the other would just give up and stop...
She wandered right on by us and we continued on to Baring Falls...
The trail along St Mary Lake was very nice and there is even a tour that stops for a look at the falls...
It was a pretty easy hike to the very popular St Mary Falls. We could hear we were close way before we saw them. Turns out all the commotion was due to the crowd urging young Leo to jump already. With a large log spanning the creek just below the bridge, we totally understood his reluctance.
But not long after we had moved on, we heard a round of cheers indicating that Leo finally made the leap!
