Second time was a charm… We were able to tour Tropical Farms the next day!
There main crop is macadamia nuts but they grow so many other things there and film lots of movies on their property.
They even had hens and chicks running around at the gift store…
After hanging around for a bit we hopped on board our luxury tour bus for our tour…
We saw all kinds of things growing that I’ve only seen in pictures…
ginger
banana???
he brought me my favorite thing! Cocoa
tapioca
Part way through the tour they stopped at the “village” to do a presentation on coconuts: how to open them, shredding them, getting milk and making things from the leaves.
you hit it right between the eyes
ready to drink
not everyone likes the coconut water
everyone liked the coconut better
they also make huts out of coconut leaves
Oh, I forgot about fire… we also learned how to start fires and watched him do a spectacular fire dance!
All the women and children got a coconut crown…
Then we made our way to where they were filming the TV show “Last Resort” and other shows and movies…
the cafe from “50 First Dates”
The boat ride was really enjoyable despite the rain. It did rain a bit but when the rain is warm you hardly even notice being wet.
where “Gilligan’s Island” was filmed
“Godzilla”, “King Kong” & “Jurassic Park” were also filmed here
Then we got back on the bus for the rest of the tour…
sugar cane
After the tour we headed back to the house…
Turtle Island, the Marine Corps base is on his tail
We were so hungry but thankfully there was a shrimp shack on the way…
The garlic shrimp was absolutely amazing!!!
Even though we’d already had a pretty full day there was still things to be done: places to swim, treats to eat, sun to enjoy…
