Home Improvement

Chris is on vacation and there is no better way to spend it than to catch up on all the projects that need to get done around the house. The past three days I feel like we should be on some home improvement reality show on HGTV.

This week on "You CAN Do It Yourself" the Leingang family has 4 days to complete numerous projects around their 1972 split-level home. They are finishing the schoolroom remodeling project, installing the remaining 13 new vinyl windows, and completing a patio drain. Can they do it all before their vacation is over? Tune in and see. "You CAN Do It Yourself" is brought to you by Peterson Brothers Contracting: "You could do it yourself, but really, why would you want to?"

In all seriousness, the projects went really well. The boys have been LOTS of help with painting, hefting windows, holding ladders, cleaning up, everything! We got up every morning, ate, worked, showered and went to bed exhausted. There is still little things to do here and there but the hard parts are done.
We should all be proud of a job well done! Here are some pics of what we have done so far...

The upstairs windows were the trickiest!

Out with the old...

The schoolroom just before we started the job

It's almost done and really blue and cheery

This is the boys' side of the room. The dark blue strip above the desks is painted with magnet primer so that we can stick pictures and timelines to the wall. Pretty cool stuff!

Mom's side of the room. I now have more workspace and we painted the steel door with dry erase paint. We'll find out if it works tomorrow afternoon. (If not it will become gray again)

Wow, very impressive! You guys are workhorses! The windows are great, but I especially love the schoolroom with the magnet paint and the whiteboard paint. I've always wanted a chalkboard paint wall, but I hate the powder that gets all over your hands...

Each day stuff changes a little, depending on what positions get filled, but I have my profile in at two hospitals in Spokane, then Bremerton, Renton, Puyallup, Tacoma, Seattle Children's, and Olympia. Some of those are farther south than I was hoping for, but at least that's closer to you guys!! You know I'll be sure to post just what happens!

I got a good laugh from your version of "You CAN Do It Yourself"! Good for you guys! The school room looks terrific! And what a great learning experience for the kids. You all did a great job on your projects. Now what you need is a vacation!

Todd really wants to get some work done around here on the house but on his days off, he's too tired. It's really frustrating to him. We know that he'll feel so much better after he has the surgery but can one really look forward to surgery - ever?

We are always encouraged to see others getting home projects done. And now you can enjoy your efforts. Thanks for sharing!

God bless,
Kate

P.S. Has it been sunny in your area? We just keep having cloudy days - or days with sun and dark clouds constantly blowing over. crazybusy is north of here in WA and she says it's worse there. It's just been that kind of summer! At least my tomatoes are actually growing - hooray! I planted them in pots on the deck, the warmest place out there and they are doing pretty good. A blessing!

You are crazy! We never get anything accomplished in our place it seems...but maybe someday! I'm still not completely done with the basement bathroom!!! Anyway...the school room looks amazing! We got some chalkboard paint, but haven't used it yet for the playroom! I am a person that always wants change in the house...I think we are now on round 3!!! Anywho...take care and God bless!

You have a beautiful home.
And you're right, making a place a more beautiful place to hang out is the perfect way to spend a vacation. I'm sure you'll all enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Blessings,
Paula
