How Old Am I This Year?

I probably would have felt a lot older this year on my birthday if I hadn't spent the entire year thinking and telling people I was 37. Then about two weeks ago I started to do the "birthday math". If I was born in '72 and it's 2009 that makes me 37 this year. Wait, I'm not turning 38 this year??? So, it was kind of like I turned a year younger this year! Pretty cool, huh? I wonder how old I'll turn next year?

While finding out that I didn't age this year was a pretty great gift, it wasn't the best part of my birthday. My birthday was Day 1 of getting back into my routine again. After about 2 and 1/2 weeks of spontaneous and unorganized living I was feeling a bit on edge. So while not what most people would hope for their birthday, I spent a glorious day busy at work and accomplishing all the things that I have been wanting to but just haven't!!! I always say that I am like "Martha (Mary's sister in the Bible, not the very popular homemaking guru and felon) on steroids". I really don't even enjoy relaxing that much. Sick, isn't it?

Between confirmation, a trip alone to the new JoAnn's in town and Praise Team practice the guys made me my traditional favorite birthday dinner of Waikiki meatballs and rice! And while they made supper I got to do Wii Fit for the first time in 13 days! It's amazing how out of shape you can get in only 13 days. But it does explain why I am not more in shape after 16 years of neglect and only 4 months of Wii Fit.

Yes, Andy ate too. We just had him take the picture, which he gladly did when he realized it meant he wouldn't have to be in the picture.

After practice we went home to enjoy the caramel-turtle ice cream cake Chris and Andy brought home for my birthday cake. It was so yummy! It was a really good thing I worked out earlier! They also gave me my gift: a promise to have my piano fixed now that I am actually playing it. After 8 moves, 4 states and mice it isn't sounding very good anymore. The last guy who looked at it gave us an estimate of $800 to fix it. We might be looking into a new keyboard depending on what this guy says. I would hate to lose this piano after all the love and toil my dad and I spent restoring it, but we'll just have to see.

caramel-turtle ice cream cake!

As you can see, I continued to get younger as the day
went on and by the time we did cake I was only 4. :o)

Will must have decided I needed help blowing out the
candles at my age. LOL

My "day of birth", as William calls it, was wonderful but Chris wanted to be able to do something "special" as a family last night as well. After much deliberation and debate (it's really hard to make decisions when you've reached the age that you don't even know how old you are anymore) I decided I really wanted German food. Bratwurst, spatzel, dark beer, braised red cabbage, schnitzel, fondue... But sadly this town is lacking in any kind of ethnic foods besides Mexican and Chinese, which we have in abundance. So having enjoying the food of my heritage required a trip south to Vancouver. And since our friends, the McMurrys, live in Vancouver I decided to give them a buzz and invite them to join us. Luckily they were able to fit us in between bell practice and the very ending of a Boy Scout meeting! Not only was is so fun to eat delicious high fat and cabbage-y food with such great friends but my three boys were AWESOME!!! They sat so quietly and patiently while we visited (and before you just assume they were quiet because they were eating, they weren't because we slicked down all that food pretty fast). It was one of the sweetest gifts they've given me!!! I love you and am very proud of you all!

So, all in all it was a very special birthday this year. I wonder what they'll do for Mother's Day??? :o)
