Hawaii – Arriving on the Island

I can hardly believe how God worked everything out for Chris and I to be able to go to Hawaii to celebrate our 20th anniversary! From the hospitality of the Osbornes, to the phenomenal airline ticket deal, to the totally unexpected gift before leaving… it all made for a truly miraculous trip!

We left right after Friday School and headed straight to Portland for the airport. Before boarding we grabbed a bite to eat at Gustav’s at the airport and had dinner with a kid we met there heading back home to Hawaii for his brother’s wedding. He’d been in the airport alone all day and just looked like he needed company. It was fun to hear him talk about home and tell us about all the good things we should see, do and eat while we were there.

Despite being airsick (well, I was airsick), the 6 hour flight wasn’t bad at all. We got complimentary drinks for our anniversary, had free mai tais just before our arrival and sat next to another Hawaii native who told us all kinds of great tidbits about Oahu!

When we landed we began to realize that we had not made any arrangements for being picked up. Oops!

Fortunately God had that worked out, too and we found Shawn without any trouble at all! Whew!

Didn’t get to see much on the way back to Kailua but we enjoyed getting to see Shawn and Karen again and chatted until late! But we slept great and were ready for our first day on the island…
