The Trip Home

Everyone woke up ready to pack up and head to the coast for the trip home. The kids pitched in and helped with packing up the vans and cleaning up the Ranch. We all worked hard and it looked even better than when we arrived!

We loaded the vans, got our maps and headed west to Pacific City. Unfortunately so did everyone else in the state, or so it seemed… It was PACKED! So we found parking for all the vehicles, hauled stuff down to the sand, had lunch and left for Tillamook.

But instead of watching loaves of orange cheddar and vats of squeeky cheese we saw giant sheets of black plastic and signs that said “Closed for welding”. :o(  Thankfully we did get to look at the giant vats of milk. (Yes, that was said sarcastically…)

Great Escape 84 Great Escape 85The kids did have fun posing for silly pictures, browsing through the gift shops, trying cheese samples at the “buffet”, and eating ice cream. My favorites were the Smoked Cracked Pepper White Cheddar cheese and the White Licorice ice cream! But my very favorite part was that they were still selling buckets for only 50 cents!!!

I would later come to regret letting the girls buy these…

The ride between Tillamook and Astoria for supper was a little crazy, especially in the “girls’ van”. I think it had something to do with the placebo lollipop effect. Wow! Let’s just say it was an experience… :o)

But we all made it back safe and sound and sent them all home…
