We set off bright and early on Monday for Fort Stevens State Park… with a slight detour at the Astoria Column. It was the ideal day for a walk up the tower! And we don’t get many of those on the coast, especially this summer…
Look how excited they are!!!
It’s a long way up!
And a long way down!!!
But the view was spectacular!!!
And flying gliders from the top is loads of fun!!!
Then it was time to eat…
And roll down the hill…
Then we were off to the park and some exploring of Battery Russell.
looking up from below
Hobo looks pretty smug for just having defaced state property… LOL
What are the chances???
William decided to check out what was in the passageway
Spider Man pose!
Getting in was easier than getting out!
Watch your head, Will!!!
It was easier to read from on top
more batteries
Is Will surrendering or conducting???
Then it was time to set up camp and eat supper…
Girls’ camp
Kitchen camp
Meeting camp
I wasn’t allowed at boys’ camp… :o)
Zack planned a fun activity for our first night out. Everyone had to design and build a contraption that would protect an egg dropped from the top of Battery Russell.
They turned out pretty… well, unique!

Everybody’s ready but who’s will survive the fall???
Most glided gently to the ground…
Some (ok, one) took the shorter faster and more direct route to the ground…
with not such great results! :o(
Beth tried hers again!
We ended the day with snacks and a bit of Tron before retiring to bed!
